Baltimore Bike Experience Workshop
East Baltimore has a new bike shop. Councilman Glover was on hand as the Baltimore Bike Experience opened in the Library Square Community. This new bike shop creates a safe environment allowing youth a safe space to build friendships, learn repairs, learn maintenance, develop artistic expression and learn safe use of their bicycle. Their location at 2912 Pulaski Highway used to be a gas station and auto service shop; however, The Southeast Community Development Corporation (CDC) installed new flooring ceilings and walls, and outfitted the space with bike workshop benches and storage, to create a vibrant place for people of all ages to learn about bikes. We welcome this asset to the community.
Oh Give Thanks!
Councilman Glover joined the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church is distributing turkeys, thanksgiving food, and lunches to the people of McElderry Park. Pastor Gary Dittman and his church hosts this event every year to try to provide food to people who need it the most. With rising costs of food due to inflation, among the worldwide turkey shortage, it is a blessing that Amazing Grace was able to pull this together. We also celebrate with Amazing Grace as they are celebrating their 25 year anniversary. That's 25 years of community support and they only have even more planned for that community.
Giving Flowers in Berea-Fort Worthington
Anyone that knows Councilman Glover knows that there is a special place in his heart for his older adult constituents. When he received the call from the community wanting to honor Mrs. Gladys Gilliam for her commitment to community, he wanted to help in anyway possible. Councilman Glover's office coordinated with the community to have 1400 N. Decker ceremoniously named Gladys Gilliam Way. Mrs. Gilliam is a founding member of the original Berea-Fort Worthington Community Association. Long ago, she decided to organize and help Berea-Fort Worthington become the staple it has become in District 13. We give her flowers for her volunteer service to the community.
Coke and a Smile from Santa
Santa paid an early visit to east Baltimore, trading his famous sleigh for a Coca-Cola Tractor Trailer. Councilman Glover was on hand to greet Santa and welcome him to District 13. Coca-Cola has been a great partner in District 13, continuing to sponsor various community groups, and even working with Banner Neighborhoods Inc. to help provide new shoes for students at Tench Tilgman K-8 School. The Coca-Cola Caravan in its 26th year.
Resources in the Community
Councilman Glover stopped by the Boys and Girls Club of Baltimore's resource fair, hosted by The Door, in the C.A.R.E. community. Several vendors were on hand to provide resources for families, to include mental health services, literacy advocates, assistance with SNAP and food delivery, and services for survivors of sexual abuse and substance abuse. As resources become available, we ask that you continue to follow Councilman Antonio Glover on all social media platforms, or subscribe to his newsletters to be in the know.
Herring Run Park Survey
Friends of Herring Run Park are in a strategic planning process to determine their focus areas for the next 3-5 years. They created a survey to learn from the community members who care about the park how best to represent their interests, what programs they should host, and what to advocate for in the park. They want to hear from as many voices as possible! Please share the survey widely within your own networks and
organizations. We want to hear from as many voices as possible! If you have questions, email us at info@friendsofherringrun.org. They look forward to sharing the plan with you in 2023!
